After the wind blew us out of the Ocean Center (and the windy was really gusting!) we got back in our little red car and headed for Paia Town.
It's so good to be back in this hippie, Willie Nelson town. As you may know, Willie lives just up the road part time and is frequently seen here.
We were early for our reservation at Mama's so we drove on up to Ho'okipa Lookout to see what the turtles were doing.
Everybody looks happy in the sun.
Hello Mama's! Mama Mia, my my, how could I forget you?
Checking in
This view is just as beautiful as ever.
We had a perfect table! Ricky reminded them of our anniversary. Gold star!
Appetizers with Honey wheat bread. I had pickled cucumber and carrots. Ricky had mushroom soup.
My upcountry salad with strawberries, pecans, and goat cheese.
Mama's has stepped up their game in providing selections for vegetarians. They offered tofu three ways, preparing it like they did the fish offerings. Ricky and I had the same dish. Only I had tofu and he had Ono.
It was served with mushrooms, capers, and gnocchi. Yum! It was soooo good.
Our anniversary gift from Mama's was a papaya custard dessert.
We had to have dessert, because well, it's Mama's! Ricky had creme brulee and I had the warm banana macadamia crusted crisp with vanilla ice cream. Food heaven in such a beautiful setting.
We stumbled out of Mama's in a food coma and drove back to Paia. Ricky dropped me off at Alice in Hulaland while he circled the block searching for a place to park. I tried to hurry while I struck up a conversation with Stanton. I had no idea he owned the store. We shared our mutual love of Willie Nelson and his songs and he told me some Willie stories. He was a cool guy!
Ricky swung back by to pick me up and we drove towards the upcountry.
We stopped in Makawao and Ricky waited in the Dodge while I looked around. The town was quiet, laid back, and had some nice boutique shopping and art galleries.
This cat in the General Store demonstrates Makawao's vibe perfectly.
Artist in residence.
I found the glassblower's studio and admired the art.
We drove back to Ka'anapali after a long day. The waves were really rolling.
