Wailele Polynesian Luau

Tuesday night we got tickets to the Wailele Polynesian Luau here at our hotel. We had hoped to do the Old Lahaina Luau but missed out because we didn't get tickets in advance. We were told first availability is August. So we opted for the luau here at the Westin.

The food was fair and they had an open bar. No roasted pig. (Ok by me.) The entertainment seemed to go on forever. The show ended with the fire dancers. I was luau-ed out at the end!  We sat with a family of 5 who I swear were doing a re-enactment of the Griswolds. Also at our table were a nice young couple from Canada.

Long line waiting to be seated.  We got there 30 minutes early as instructed and the line was already very long.

One of the performers.

Ready to party!

They served a large crowd. I'm guessing 300 people.

This was the emcee for the night. He played the part of a Chieftain from Fiji. He started off with a very funny act about cracking g a coconut with a stick.

His hapless volunteer was  a newlywed from California.  Most of the crowd was from California.

Fire on the rock.

Blowing the conch shell.

Telling a story with dance.

Poi and purple sweet potatoes.

Uptown girls!

Fire dancers

For a minute I thought they were going to set the house on fire. It was very dramatic.

Tasting the fire.

This dude shimmied up a palm tree using his bare hands and feet while carrying a fire stick. He hung out up there and twirled his stick like a baton.
