Tuesday in Paradise

Maui feels very different from Oahu and Honolulu. Honolulu is a big bustling city of more than 1 million people.  We were told 80% of the population of Hawaii lives on Oahu. Steel and glass and tall modern buildings fill the landscape. I felt the rush of traffic and the congestion of city life. There is a strong Japanese presence as many Japanese live, work, and vacation there. Also, I felt the lingering memory of the tragedy of Pearl Harbor.

Maui, on the other hand, is a playground. The island has open space, empty fields and
less traffic. The beach is lined with luxury resorts which seemed filled with Americans.  There are honeymooners and families frolicking in all the pools.

We joined right in!

My morning view from the breakfast table. We ate at Relish Oceanside on hotel property.

Ricky's breakfast drink

I didn't know there was organic vodka. Seems so much healthier. 🤣

Steak and egg burrito

After breakfast we walked down to the beach.  The sand is very soft.

Beach path

This tree is oddly called a screw pine.

This cute couple let me take a picture of their pineapple drinks.

We had lunch at nearby Le'lanais on the Beach.

Umbrella drinks

Ricky had fish tacos. He said they were the best he has ever eaten. I had the tofu avocado version.  Yes, I have strayed from my eating lifestyle.

Our hangout, the adults only pool.
