Island Hop

Monday morning we got up early and caught our shuttle with Robert's Hawaii to the airport for our flight to Maui.

Aloha Landing at the Sheraton.  This was the pick up and drop off point for our tours and shuttles. Aloha is really two words. "Alo" means presence. "Ha" means breath of life. Hawaiians had a custom (when greeting one another) of pressing foreheads together to connect their minds. Then pressing noses together while alternately breathing in and out to share their breath, or life energy.

View of Aloha Tower on the way to the airport.  This lighthouse was opened in 1926 in Honolulu Harbor. It is an island landmark.

Breakfast at the airport.

Wall art. I love how all the license plates have rainbows on them.

Rubber bands around the wallet because the money is going fast. The food is very expensive everywhere.

Women are "wahine."

Mural of the islands.

First glimpse of Maui.

This lovely young Hawaiian greeted us at the airport.

On the way to our hotel. This is Haleakala. A volcano that forms more than 75% of the island of Maui.

Old sugar cane field. Sugar cane is no longer grown commercially due to the cost of labor.

Monkeypod trees line the road.
