Last Day on Maui

We had breakfast at the Regency Club, then sat at our favorite hang out by the penguin cove to catch the breeze and hear the waves.

Here is the link to the video of the penguins braying like donkeys. So funny to hear such small birds make such a loud noise!

Statue at the entrance to Japengo. Near the penguin cove.
Love this Hawaiian dress! After breakfast we got ready to head into Whaler's Village one last time.
             Waiting for the green trolley.
                           Jewelry store. 🥰
Lucky lucky girl! Turtle bracelet to match the necklace Ricky bought for me last year. ❤🥰
Lunch and mai tai at Monkeypod.           Restaurant.

After lunch we moved over to The Hula Grill to sit in the sand.
                              Lilikoi Soda

This afternoon saw us back at the Marilyn Monroe spa. I had a massage and Ricky had a sunburn skin treatment.

Then we caught a cab into Lahaina for a special evening meal at Kimo's on Front St.

                     Ricky had prime rib.
             I had miso marinated tofu.
We finished it off with hula pie. Macadamia nut ice cream, chocolate, whipped cream.
                     Sunset from Kimo's
                      Nightlife in Lahaina.

Turtle Day

Friday we spent the day at our hotel. Vendors set up tables in the lobby to sell their wares, and I took advantage of the shopping opportunity. Ricky headed to the pool early. I joined him and spent the day on the beach and in or near the pool. Ricky got a bad sunburn. 😣 We opted for supper at Sonz Steakhouse here on property. Highlight of the day for me was turtle spotting on the beach here at our resort. 🤗❤

I met this friendly artist, a potter, in the lobby selling his work. We struck up a conversation about his art and Joy's work. I rarely buy other ceramics as I love Joy's stuff. But I was so impressed by him I ordered one of his mugs. He is fro Illinois but has been living on Maui for 20 years.

                               Beach path
The sand is soft and deep and can be hard to walk in.

            Haleakala rising in the distance.

Must be big sand crabs. I didn't get a look at one.

Below is a link to the video I made of the turtles swimming off shore here at the hotel. You have to be patient and watchful as they surface only momentarily for a breath of air.

Sonz Steakhouse. We got to eat with a nice view of the waterfall and swans.

                    Ricky had lobster tail.

Paia and Mama's Fish House

Thursday after breakfast we picked up our rental car and drove into Paia.

Haleakala is huge. It dominates the view. It's so large it is hard to take a picture of it. The top is covered in clouds.
                         Slight traffic jam
                               Rental car
                  Graffiti in the parking lot
Paia is a pretty small town. Lots of shops are here. A place where the free spirits gather. Willie Nelson has a home somewhere in or near Paia.

                       Paia Dharma Center
                                   Stupa
                             Prayer wheel
People were in the temple chanting

I shopped and looked around Paia while Ricky hung out at a watering hole. Then we headed to Mama's Fish House.

We had read how good Mama's is, but wondered if it would live up to its reputation. Everything we read said it is THE place to eat on Maui. We got our reservations 2 months in advance. They were already booked up for evening meal times. Mama's did not disappoint. It was an over-the-top dining experience. The setting was beautiful. The food was unbelievably delicious,  even the vegetarian choice.  And the service exemplified the Aloha spirit. It was a once in a lifetime meal for me.

Ricky arranged to have this prepared for our table and a lei presented to me for our anniversary.  So very sweet. Husband of the Decade!
View from our table looking out to the ocean.

   Asparagus bisque and fresh bread.
                             Spring salad

                   Chewing the sugar cane
Ricky had Opakapaka and a side of Blue Prawns
They made me a delicious pan seared tofu with caramelized onions.

The wood work was so beautiful. Vintage Hawaiian.  My favorite.

Dessert was The Black Pearl.  A chocolate mousse in a delicate shell.
Also for dessert, warm Banana Crisp with Macadamia Nut ice cream.

We ate ourselves into a food coma. Unbelievable experience.
