Accepting Fate

The Anemoi, wind gods of Greek mythology, and Poseidon conspired to change our plans.

The captain announced we would not be anchoring in Santorini today due to unfavorable weather and wind. We spent a second night in Rhodes last night, then sailed for Crete at 1 pm today, the 13th.

We had the options of choosing another excursion for Rhodes, but decided to sleep in and have a slow morning.

I did some more exploring in Old Town while Ricky had some down time onboard.

The Old Town on the left. A newer part of the city appears whiter, on the right. There is a military boat in the harbor below us.

Coffee and croissants on the balcony

                 On the walk into town

The city walls behind the souvenir shops

The symbol of Rhodes is the deer. I looked and looked for displays, but only spotted deer on the manhole covers.

                    Locks on the fence

This gate is massive. I'm sure it was also impressive in medieval times.

                    Detail from the gate

                 Archer's slits in the walls

                   Statue in the harbor

            Greek fishermen near the port

                     Sailing toward Crete

We went to Wintergarden for tea, but there wasn't anywhere to sit. They sent us to Mamsen's and brought tea to us there.

Mediterranean Mandarin tea with scones. Delicious!

                            Rainbow

The sandwiches were fair. The sweets were outstanding.

                Enjoying sunset as we sail

Ricky enjoyed langoustine for the first time.

Rhodes was so pleasant, it took some of the disappointment out of missing Santorini on this trip.
