Embarkation Day

We had an early wake up alarm as our luggage had to be out in the hallway by 6:30 am.

Who decorates the inside of a closet anyway?

Ready for embarkation

The ceiling in our room had an interesting configuration. It's probably due to the building's past life as a grain mill.

Viking provided a breakfast buffet. This was a first for me- a tray of honeycomb on the buffet line.

We had a nice variety to select from

The little pot of yogurt was delicious.

After breakfast we sat on the deck in front of the hotel to enjoy the sunshine and water.
A bird pooped on Ricky's sleeve which I hope is really good luck!

I took a short walk to settle breakfast. This is one of the restaurants at our hotel.

                Choppy water this morning.

Fueling station for boats. I love the logo!

Moss or algae growing on the steps of the Canal.

This building was next door to our hotel.

Apartments for rent. How do people live without green spaces?

            Decal for Nomadic Party event

                    Wooden letter box

This was the biggest disappointment of the trip so far. Ricky and I had talked about eating here while planning our trip. I was so tired last night I didn't do the research to discover this restaurant was just a few minutes walk from our hotel. 😔😭

It seems like such a well known place would have better signage.  And a parking lot!
I just stumbled on it by accident this morning.

               Outdoor seating for Harry's.

I pressed my nose to the window grate and cried on the menu.

Back at the hotel, Ricky checked us out of our room and we waited as told in the reception area with fellow travelers. I took more random pictures.

Source of Energy. I need some of this stuff!

I think the price on this item was over 20K. Not sure I'm reading the price tag right. But what's it for?

Our water transport arrived and we left happy to be headed to our ship.

We quickly discovered the truth. It was deathly hot. No breeze. No water. No fans. The boat went very slowly. This employee of TrumpyTours, Debby, saved my soul with her entertaining banter. She was a wealth of trivia information. This was an hour and a half of sweatin' with the oldies. Every stitch I had on was drenched by the time we arrived.

We sailed past several islands as we wound our way through the lagoon. One of the islands  we passed was Lido. Evidently it's a ritzy place.
We also sailed past a fishing island where only six families own all the property and have intermarried through the generations. Hmmm.Ok.I guess.

I can finally see our ship off in the distance!

Pulling into the Port of Chiogga. Pronounced Key-Oh-Juh.

                        Going aboard!

We got upgraded to a larger room! We are in 5099 if you want to look at the ship's map on the Viking website.

View of the port terminal from our balcony.
Venice no longer allows cruise ships in their port due to damage caused to the foundation of the city. So we are in the far south end of the lagoon.

View of the port terminal and the marina.

View from Explorer's Lounge of the lagoon with pilings marking the navigable channels.

The ship has Crown. Oh happy day for Ricky!
We enjoyed sitting in Explorer's Lounge again.

A Uniworld Longship joined us in port.

Ricky dove into the seafood in the World Cafe.

Dessert is always a must! Chocolate creme brulee.

And then it was "Goodnight Irene!"
